澳门六合彩历史记录-QC English Professor Named Fulbright Scholar, Senior Lecturer to Germany

MACOMB, IL 鈥 A 澳门六合彩历史记录 鈥 Quad Cities professor has been named a Fulbright Scholar to Germany.
Associate Professor of English Daniel Malachuk has been appointed to serve as a Fulbright Senior Lecturer in Germany. He will teach two courses from March through July 2014 at the University of Heidelberg at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies, one on Romanticism and the origin of human rights and another on the idea of sustainability in early American literature.
Malachuk said he had hoped to spend part of his 2013-14 sabbatical as a Fulbright Scholar, and the German university attracted him because of its prominent Heidelberg Center for American Studies.
"They have an excellent program that attracts students from around the world," he said. "I look forward to working with their faculty and students as well as learning more about their educational system.鈥
Faculty at the University of Heidelberg were very receptive to the proposed courses and to teaching them collaboratively. A faculty member at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies wrote a letter in support of Malachuk's Fulbright application.
"It was really a nice surprise when I found out I had been chosen," Malachuk said. "My wife and I have an 11-year-old son and we believe this is a great time to travel abroad with him. We think it will be a good experience for all of us."
Malachuk has been teaching in the English and Liberal Arts & Sciences degree programs at 澳门六合彩历史记录-QC since 2007. Prior to this, he was a visiting professor at American University in Washington, D.C. He earned his bachelor's degree in English from Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, ME, and his doctoral degree in 1996 from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.
The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Program was developed by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State. Since the program began nearly 60 years ago, more than 300,000 Fulbright Scholars have been named to study and teach in over 150 countries.
Malachuk's award is the second for 澳门六合彩历史记录 this year. 澳门六合彩历史记录 Management Professor Joe Dobson was also awarded a Fulbright Scholarship recently and will spend time during Spring 2014 in Romania, teaching management classes.
