December 11, 2024
Editor's Note: This is a series of stories about 澳门六合彩历史记录 students, alumni, and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL 鈥 Alumnus Adam Bednar recalls the small-scale classrooms that enabled him to develop strong relationships with professors and fellow peers.
鈥淭his is what ultimately drew me to 澳门六合彩历史记录 over any other university,鈥 Bednar said.
To Bednar, being a Leatherneck means being open to all ideas and perspectives.
鈥淚 was always exposed to different individuals, which is extremely important in our modern world. Whether or not you agree with your peers, being able to foster relationships of respect is a hallmark of being a Leatherneck,鈥 Bednar said.
His favorite memory was in the History Department when completing his thesis.
鈥淭he topic was the social practice of dueling in Antebellum America. I was fortunate enough to receive a research grant that enabled me to reenact, film, and present a recreation of a duel set in 1820s America. The experience was memorable as it showed me how a well-thought-out idea can come full circle to reality,鈥 Bednar said.
Bednar feels 澳门六合彩历史记录 prepared him to think on his feet in an ever-changing professional world.
鈥淭he ability to break down complex/abstract concepts into layman's terms in a skill that I honed while at Western. As a History/Education major, being able to communicate was essential to building the post-undergrad relationships that have helped grow my career,鈥 Bednar said.
He actively participated in the Associated Students of History (ASH) and the Centennial Honors College. Additionally, he presented his research several times at the Undergraduate Research Day on campus.
鈥淚 encourage all students to join student organizations and get out of their comfort zone. You never know what interests or passions you will develop until you take the plunge,鈥 Bednar said.
As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local 澳门六合彩历史记录 students to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
