Creative Writers Society To Host Speaker April 28

The Creative Writers Society at 澳门六合彩历史记录 will host William J. Maxwell, who will present a paper on the poetry of Claude McKay from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 in University Union Cardinal/Oak Room.



Maxwell will also read from his new book, 聯Complete Poems, Claude McKay聰 and sign books at the Sullivan-Taylor Coffee House in Macomb at 5:30 April 28.



Both events are open free to the public.



Maxwell is the director of English Graduate Studies and an associate professor of English and the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He earned his bachelor聮s degree in English from Columbia University in New York and his master聮s and doctoral degrees from Duke University in North Carolina. In addition to the introductions and annotations in the Claude McKay book, Maxwell has also written the book, 聯New Negro, Old Left: African American Writing and Communism Between the Wars,聰 which was named an 聯Outstanding Academic Book聰 in 2000 by Choice. Maxwell has also published numerous articles and chapters in scholarly journals.



Maxwell聮s visit is co-sponsored by the Visiting Lecturers Committee, Western聮s English and journalism department, the department of sociology and anthropology, Copperfield and Co.
