°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Journalism Day Oct. 19

MACOMB, IL - - High school students who want to explore journalism as a career have an opportunity to learn from °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ professors and speakers at the 2009 Journalism Day Monday, Oct. 19 on the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼-Macomb campus.

The schedule is as follows:

9-9:30 a.m. – Registration, University Union
9:30 a.m. – Welcome ceremony
9:45-10:30 a.m. – Breakout sessions with °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ professors, University Union Capitol Room
10:45 a.m. – Keynote speech by Bernie Schoenburg, University Union Heritage Ballroom
11:45 a.m. – Lunch (free pizza and drinks will be provided to all participants), University Union Heritage Ballroom
12:30 p.m. – Optional tour of Western Courier and broadcast news facilities

Schoenburg is a reporter and columnist who covers politics for The State Journal-Register in Springfield (IL). His speech, "Politics: Keeping Them Honest," will focus on his career and the experience of holding elected officials accountable and exposing patronage. Schoenburg has also covered recent national stories, including the inauguration of President Barack Obama and the removal from office of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Breakout sessions will feature °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ faculty involved in advertising, media law, investigative reporting, photojournalism, political reporting and public relations.

Journalism Day is open free to the public and is co-sponsored by the (CAS), the , the and the Council on Student Activity Funds.
