Time: 3:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Location: Waggoner Hall 171
Also accessible via Zoom (please e-mail for link)
Description: Dr. Kimberley McClure from the Laboratory for the Investigation of Psychology and Law at 澳门六合彩历史记录 will discuss her research aimed at improving interactions between Law Enforcement Officers and potential subjects. A COPS DeTal Center project examined dynamic officer-subject interactions relevant for de-escalation training.

Negative stereotypes (e.g., racist cop, black criminal) were expected to influence perceptions of escalation between a White police officer and a Black or White subject. Participants (N = 444) rated the likelihood of force escalation within officer-subject interactions nationally and then for a recorded situation. Cultural context influenced escalation perceptions. Participant race influenced situational perceptions of the officer, who was expected to use more force relative to the subject. In contrast, subjects were perceived as more likely to escalate force (cf., officers), at the national level.
