Dr. Daugherty spent 33 years serving as a police officer in the state of Illinois.  He served for three years as a Deputy for the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department; he served as an officer for the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Office of Public Safety for seven years and was promoted to Corporal in January of 1988; he then served as an Illinois State Trooper working in District 15, I-90 Zone, for one year and for District 14, Macomb, for the remainder of his career.

Dr. Daugherty served in many positions during his career in policing.  He was a certified radar instructor; a certified intoxilyzer operator; a shift commander; a safety education officer; a field training instructor; a field training supervisor; and a certified dive master that served on the McDonough County and ISP Dive/Rescue Teams.  Though he considers himself a police generalist and patrol expert, he conducted countless DUI investigations; hit-and-run investigations; countless crash investigations; took numerous guns and other weapons off the streets; conducted drug investigations; participated in felony search warrant services in drug and weapons houses with the DEA and other police agencies; and conducted background investigations with the ISP Department of Criminal Investigation. 

Dr. Daugherty led the district in patrol activity for most of his career and was the recipient of numerous letters of commendation; letters of appreciation; certificates of achievement; and a life-saving medal.  Dr. Daugherty considers himself to be a life-long learner and a teacher of law enforcement. 

Dr. Daugherty was certified to teach law enforcement classes for the state of Illinois in 1983 and he taught law enforcement related courses at Spoon River College in Macomb, Illinois, from the fall of 1995 through the fall of 1996.  He has instructed the Judicial Driving Course for the McDonough County Judges since June of 1977 and he began working for the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA) as an instructor in the fall of 2011. 

Dr. Daugherty earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a Minor in Journalism from °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ (°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼) in February of 1976.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement Administration from °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ in May of 1977.  In May of 1983, he earned a Master of Arts in Law Enforcement Administration with a Minor in Political Science from °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼.  He went on to attend the University of Phoenix where he earned a Doctor of Education Degree with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction in August of 2017.   Â
