MACOMB, IL - Karen Trusley, program assistant in the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Office of Equal Opportunity and Access, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for March.

Trusley was hired at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ as an office support associate in Human Resources through the intern program in August 2011. After completing her internship, Trusley was hired as an office support associate in Human Resources in November 2011 and was reallocated by audit to human resource representative in June 2012. She was promoted to her current position in October 2013.

According to Trusley's nominator, she is "one of the most likeable personalities you will ever come across."

"She helped with Fall Commencement ceremonies and was often overheard congratulating graduates and making their families feel welcome," the nominator said. "If she doesn't have an answer for something, her first response is not ‘I don't know,' but ‘I will look into that for you and get back to you with an answer.' She is always upbeat and positive regardless of what obstacle she faces. She is the first person you see when you walk into her office, and she always has a smile on her face and is willing to do whatever she can to make your experience a positive one."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Barnett at AA-Barnett@wiu.edu.
