April 4, 2014
MACOMB – Tom Durso, chief broadcasting engineer in the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Department of Broadcasting, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for April.
Durso was hired to his current position in October 2002. According to his nominators, he goes above and beyond his normal job requirements in numerous areas, including getting the broadcasting studio upgraded with high definition equipment.
"He appears to effortlessly manage all of the studio, control room and portable equipment and handled the formidable task of replacing, testing and installing all of the new equipment for the HD studio," his nominator said. "His expertise is invaluable to the department."
In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.
The °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Barnett at AA-Barnett@wiu.edu.
