Parry Named February Employee of the Month

MACOMB, IL – Merrie Jean Parry, an administrative clerk in the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) Dean's office, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for February.

Parry was hired in 1997 as a secretary III in the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ adult education center. In July 2000, she relocated to the Star Project. In June 2006, Parry was promoted to secretary IV in the COEHS Dean's office and was promoted to staff clerk in the same office in March 2008. Parry was promoted to her current position in October 2012.

According to Parry's nominators, she is "always pleasant and funny whenever you ask a question or need something," despite her numerous responsibilities.

"She is always on top of the job and handles it in a professional manner," said her nominators. "She is the go-to person when you have a question. Merrie Jean always looks at the positive aspect of a situation. Because of Merrie Jean's excellent knowledge and work ethic, the college functions smoothly. She has a terrific personality, and anyone who comes in contact with her is met with enthusiasm and respect."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Barnett at AA-Barnett@wiu.edu.
