MACOMB, IL – Students in the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Department of Kinesiology are learning on new equipment, thanks to a recent gift from McDonough District Hospital.

In February 2024, the staff at McDonough District Hospital donated an electrocardiogram testing system, including a GE Medical Systems EKG testing computer, a GE72100 motorized treadmill and a Laerdal CPR Simulation Manikin.

"We are proud to support the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Kinesiology department by donating our GE Stress machine and treadmill. We are excited to support °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼'s commitment to education on stress testing and are confident this equipment will greatly benefit the students and teachers. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this contribution will have," MDH Director of Cardiopulmonary Nicole Minnis, RT(R) RVT RDMS(ABD, OB/GYN) RDCS, said.

This equipment is now housed in the Human Performance Lab in Brophy Hall and is being used by both undergraduate and graduate students in exercise science courses. Staff from MDH came to campus to train °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ students and staff on how to properly use the equipment. This new system is advancing students' knowledge and understanding of the structure and function of the cardiovascular system.

"We are excited to receive this donation from McDonough District Hospital. This equipment will provide our students an invaluable opportunity for expanded experiential learning contexts and further support the growing partnership between °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ and MDH," College of Education and Human Services Interim Dean Eric C. Sheffield said.

Director of Development for the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) Emily Gillett worked with MDH staff to secure the donation.

"Gifts of equipment, like this donation from MDH, provide an immediate, tangible opportunity to move °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ forward and keep our students on the cutting edge of learning," Gillett said.
