MACOMB, IL - - °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Ryan Severs, director of University Television and Media, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for May.

Severs started at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ in February 2010 as an instructional technology systems manager. In March 2018, he transitioned into the role of University Television director-producer. In January 2023, Severs was named the director of University Television and Media.

Severs was honored with this recognition after a co-worker recognized him for his integral contribution to the success of the 2024 °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Foundation Donor Banquet.

"Leading up to the event, Severs created four videos and on the night of the banquet, was responsible for producing the live components. He brings high enthusiasm and professionalism to every element of the project. Severs kept the project realistic and fun. Many hours on shoots and in the editing bay created good conversations, but his efforts defined the "work hard, play hard" mentality. He filmed in 21 separate locations, both on and off campus, inside and outside, requiring heavy lifting, literally! " his nominator said.

The nomination focused on Severs going above and beyond to create a kick-off video that was different from the norm.

"Severs executed a compelling, attention-grabbing, dual-purpose video that kicked off the evening. His efforts for the banquet contributed to the positive image and direction of the University. He intentionally crafted poignant and impactful videos for the event, yet not so specific that they couldn't be used elsewhere. The videos show the importance of donors in the lives of faculty, staff and students. We recognize what an amazing resource he is to the University and celebrate his talents," his nominator continued.

"Being selected employee of the month is a great honor but I'd like this acknowledgment to reflect the work being done by University Television and our entire division," Severs said. "Our accomplishments are achieved as a collaborative unit, and I know we'll continue to promote °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ with fresh ideas and initiatives."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition, should contact the Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
