Editor's Note: This is a series of stories about °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ students, alumni, and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Alumna Hayley Lair is proud to follow in her grandparent's footsteps as a proud Leatherneck.

To Lair, being a Leatherneck has a strong correlation with family, and fondly remembers being a part of the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ community.

"I was in the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ marching band and seeing them thank us for playing at the games was rewarding," Lair said.

Lair was not only in the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ marching band but the pep band, Zoology and Agricultural clubs.

"I would advise students to come to the open houses in your field of interest and attend Leatherneck Launch," Lair said. "They are extremely helpful for new students."

As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ students to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
