MACOMB, IL – The Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ is pleased to announce that Kathy Nichols, library specialist of Archives and Special Collections in University Libraries, was selected as the September Civil Service Employee of the Month.

Nichols was cited by her nomintors for “carrying out her duties with complete enthusiasm and excellence. When individuals interact with Kathy, she gives them the utmost attention and works tirelessly to ensure that their needs are fully met.”

“She goes to extreme lengths to make sure a visitor’s needs are met. She does this not for recognition or personal acclaim, but because she truly believes that anything less than total excellence is unfair to visitors,” her nominators added. “She doesn’t just haul out materials or just reply to inquiries, she helps people by using her personal knowledge, research intelligence and creativity, as if that person’s project was also her own.”

Nichols began working at Western in March 1999 as a library clerk. In April 2004 she was reallocated to her current position of library specialist.

“Kathy is to be commended for contributing so much to Western and to the community,” said Katharine D. Barrett, CSEC public relations officer. “Her dedication and commitment to Archives and to the University are to be applauded.”

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this recognition should contact Barrett at 309/298-2325 or email
