MACOMB, IL – Kathy Barrett, an administrative assistant in University Technology, has been named the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Civil Service Employee of the Month for August.

Barrett, who was hired in August 1989 as a secretary II, was chosen for the honor because she "is the glue that holds University Technology together."

In September 1990, Barrett became chief clerk in University Technology before moving up to staff clerk in 1994. In 2001, Barrett was reclassified to administrative clerk and received her current classification in 2004.

According to Barrett's nominator, she "stays on top of the budget, provides input at the director level meetings, organizes projects including maintaining detailed task lists, and is always the go-to person."

Barrett's nominators said she spends many hours beyond the typical workday completing the many tasks she has.

"Somehow, this has just become expected of Kathy as everyone keeps piling more on her plate because they know she'll get the job done," the nominator said. "Her impact on this campus represents the best in educational values that are available at this University."

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) Public Relations Representative Wendi Mattson at WK-Mattson@wiu.edu.
