- The number of scholarships are dependent upon the number and quality of applications received.
- Scholarship amounts vary based on available funds.
- Recipients are selected by the Foreign Languages and Literatures Department faculty and chairperson on the basis of the application criteria and supporting material.
Vivian Diana Line and Lenore Huston Kline Scholarships
Study Abroad
- Award: $1,000 - $10,000; must reapply each year (up to 5 years in total)
- Criteria: Declared Foreign Languages and Cultures major; accepted into study abroad program approved by the chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures; completed a minimum of 2 semesters of Foreign Languages coursework; minimum 3.0 major GPA. Preference given to applicant who have note previously received this scholarship or to students participating in a study abroad offered through the Foreign Languages and Literatures department.
- Application: 1) 500 word (minimum) essay in English to explain how you plan to utilize Foreign Languages in your future academic and career plans 2) Two (2) letters of recommendation.
New Freshmen or Transfer Student
- Award: $1,000 - $1,0000; must reapply each year (up to 5 years in total)
- Criteria: Admitted with declared Foreign Languages and Cultures major; minimum of two years of high school foreign languages with a minimum GPA of 3.5 or, for transfer students a minimum of 6 semester hours of foreign language coursework at the post-secondary level with a minimum GPA of 3.5 in such coursework; ACT 25 (may be waived for academic achievement). Preference will be given to primary (or first) majors.
- Application: 1) 500 word (minimum) essay in English to explain how you plan to utilize Foreign Languages in your future academic and career plans 2) Two (2) letters of recommendation.
Current Student
- Award: $1,000 - $10,000; must reapply each year (up to 5 years in total)
- Criteria: Declared Foreign Languages and Cultures major; complete 3 semester hours of Foreign Language courseswork prior to application submission; minimum Foreign Languages GPA at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ of 3.5; preference given to primary (or first) majors.

Fall Scholarships
Alumni Scholarship
- Award: Up to $750; not renewable
- Criteria: Incoming freshman, Foreign Languages and Cultures major; preference given to a student with a minimum 25 ACT or in the upper 25% of graduating class.
- Application Requirements: Essay describing interest in foreign languages and future plans.
Clifford A. and Rosa Julstrom Scholarship
- Award: $750; renewable
- Criteria: Full-time junior Foreign Languages and Cultures major; minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; demonstrate leadership and/or academic excellence in the department
- Application Requirements: Recommendation from two Foreign Languages and Literatures faculty members.
Blenda Olson Scholarship
- Award: $1,100; renewable
- Criteria: Female junior or senior Foreign Languages and Cultures major (completed 30 or more semester hours at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼); minimum GPA of 3.5 in Foreign Languages and Cultures studies; minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; active in student, community, academic affairs or travel abroad; Demonstrates dedication to the profession of language studies and a sympathetic view of foreign languages and cultures; financial need.
- Application Requirements: Recommendation from two Foreign Languages and Literatures faculty members.
Jerry Purdum Memorial Scholarship
- Award: $2,500; renewable
- Criteria: Full-time student with a declared major in French; preference given to incoming freshmen but can be a sophomore, junior, or senior; (incoming freshmen must have ACT 25 and rank in upper 25% of high school graduating class); continuing students should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Application Requirements: An essay (minimum of 500 words) in English describing your prior experience with French and how you plan to utilize the language in your future academic and/or professional careers.
Foreign Languages and Literatures Department Study Abroad Scholarship
- Award: $250 - 500; annually based on available funds and qualified applicants; not renewable
- Criteria: Acceptance into a faculty-led study abroad through the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures; completion of 1 semester of foreign language coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.0; declared major or minor in Foreign Languages and Cultures.
- Application Requirements: An essay (minimum of 500 words) in English describing their prior experience with foreign languages and how they plan to utilize foreign languages in their future academic and/or career plans.
