Mathematics Alumni Scholarship

These are scholarships awarded to students through the generosity of Mathematics alumni of the Department of Mathematics and Philosophy. They are given to new freshman mathematics majors, currently enrolled mathematics majors, and transfer students who have listed mathematics as their intended major. Each recipient must remain a math major for the period of the scholarship. Each academic year approximately ten scholarships are awarded.

Amount of the award is $2,000 per year.

Criteria for freshmen

  • Freshmen must be recommended or nominated by a high school teacher addressing the student's interest in mathematics and potential to succeed in a career related to mathematics; and the students must remain a math major for the period of the scholarship.
  • Incoming freshmen must have an ACT math score of at least 23 (or SAT 1150) and a high school GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4-point scale).
  • Preference is given to freshmen and transfer students, as other scholarships exist for continuing students.

Mathematics Textbook Scholarship

The scholarship is sponsored by Mathematics Foundation with funds solicited through annual drives. Recipients are selected by the Department of Mathematics and Philosophy.

Amount of the award is determined by the Department of Mathematics and Philosophy.

Criteria for freshmen

  • Demonstrated potential in the field of mathematics.
  • Must remain a mathematics major for the period of scholarship.

The award is not renewable.
