Dr. Win Phippen is a tenured full professor in the School of Agriculture. He received his MS degree from Cornell University in plant breeding and a PhD from Purdue University in the NewCrops breeding program. His research is focused on agronomic and breeding improvement of new and alternative crops. In 2010, he established a field pennycress (Thlaspi arvense L.) breeding program focused on germplasm collection, field evaluation and controlled crosses to domesticate pennycress for commercial production.  He served as the Project Director for the $10M 5 YR USDA-NIFA Coordinated Agriculture Project- IPREFER (Integrated Pennycress Research Enabling Farm and Energy Resilience).
