Facilities Management
Building Representatives
What is a Building Representative?
A building representative, or building rep for short, is a volunteer who helps foster the two-way communication between building occupants and Facilities Management. In the event something specificÌýto your building is broken or needs attention (leaking water fixture, broken window, malfunctioning airÌýcondition unit, leaking roof, etc.), the building rep will help communicate that information to WorkÌýOrder Control at Facilities Management so that facilities personnel are aware of the problem. IfÌýsomething is broken or malfunctioning behind the scenes (broken water main, power outage,Ìýequipment failure, etc.), the building rep may be contacted by Facilities Management so they, inÌýconjunction with list serv, can assist in communicating problems to building occupants.Building reps are required to provide a primary and, if possible, a secondary phone number homeÌýphone, and/or cell phone number) so that they may be contacted after hours in case of emergencies.
Depending on the building use, a separate building rep may be needed for notifications outside normalÌýbuilding hours, or on holidays and weekend. An example for this separate contact might be a scienceÌýbuilding, which houses ongoing experiments, or equipment that could potentially require immediateÌýattention in the event of a utility failure. Facilities Management is open to discussing that scenario withÌýcurrent building reps on a case by case basis.
