About Program

What you will learn

Peru is one of the biggest countries in South America by population, geographic size and economy.Ìý A large portion of the country is very rural, creating a divide betwen the needs of the cities and the rest of the country.Ìý In this Study Abroad Course, immerse yourself in Peruvian culture while focusing on the various cultural, social, and political institutions that shape the country's economy.Ìý You'll learn more about the Andean society with its achievements, challenges and problems in the economic aspects of health, education, income, employment, etc.Ìý Visit rural communities to see projects initiated by local NGOs such as artisanal weaving, organic farming, and community-based tourism.

You must have international health insurance for the time you will be on your program. Only two options are approved to meet this requirement:

Health Precautions

Walking/mobility - Expect to walk up to 5 miles a day on various surfaces, including uneven terrain, hills, and stairs.Ìý It is not consecutive but scheduled throughout the day.

Environmental - Dry with highs in the mid-60s and lows near 30; time in/near Cusco at high altitude (11,150 feet above sea level). You should discuss the potential effects of traveling to high altitudes with your health care provider.

Zika - Cases of Zika have been reported.Ìý Pregnant women should not travel to Peru.Ìý All other travelers should read about and discuss any concerns with your health care provider.

Dietary -ÌýSome meals are included in the program cost. Contact Kim McDanielÌýif you have food allergies or other dietary restrictions.ÌýÌý
