About Program

What you will learn

The Republic of Ireland has a national health care system, making it a great case study as the US struggles to decide the structure of health care here.Ìý In this Study Abroad Course, you'll learn about: the healthcare system of Ireland, the services it provides, how they are administered, both provider and consumer view points on the financial aspects of the system, the history behind the system currently in place.Ìý By studying a system with years of growth and development, you'll be better equipped to analyze the current systems in the US and guide the changes to come as new systems are implemented.

Passport required - Must be valid until at least September 30, 2018

You must have international health insurance for the time you will be on your program. Only two options are approved to meet this requirement:

Health Precautions

Walking/mobility - Expect to walk 5-8Ìýmiles per day.Ìý It is not consecutive but scheduled throughout the day.Ìý Walking will sometimes be over uneven, hilly terrain and up/down flights of stairs.ÌýÌý

Dietary -ÌýSome meals are included in the program cost. Contact Kim McDanielÌýif you have food allergies or other dietary restrictions.ÌýÌý

Credit offered

NURS 379 - Fulfills the FLGI requirement for Nursing majors.Ìý Can be used as a substitute for NURS 316 or as a Nursing elective.

NURS 679 - Continuing education for current medical professionals, including licensed medial professionals, nurses with BSN, and allied health services.

Class sessions

Active class participation, including contribution to discussions and attendance, is expected in all phases of the Course.Ìý Students are responsible for completing pre-departure assignments including readings and discussion participation, attendance and active participation during on-site visits, guest lectures and activities, and post-return assignments.Ìý Questions about course content should be directed to Dr. P.
