2000 Honorary Alumni Award
Ed Holzwarth
As a Country Companies insurance adjuster, Holzwarth was transferred to Macomb in summer 1964. He joined the Macomb Fire Department in 1966. In addition to serving as the Macomb fire chief from 1977 until his retirement in 1991, Holzwarth has served as a volunteer for the McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program. He was a volunteer coach for the Macomb girls' softball traveling team in the late 1970s. He has also been active in the YMCA, Macomb Kiwanis Club, McDonough County Heart Association, McDonough County Cancer Association, the McDonough County United Way and the Macomb High School Booster Club.
Over the years, Holzwarth has served on three search committees for °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ coaches. In addition, he has served on the Western Athletic Club, and is currently on the fundraising committee for the new °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ Football Training facility. Holzwarth and his wife, Sue, a °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ graduate, are avid Western and Macomb High School sports fans, attending volleyball, football, softball and basketball events. The Holzwarths have four children, all °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ graduates: Sue, Sandy, Mike and Terri.
"I'm honored to present this year's award to Ed," said Gordy Taylor, associate vice president for alumni programs. "Based on his support for °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ most people assume he is a graduate of Western. He epitomizes that quality individual who makes a difference in our community.
