2003 Honorary Alumni Award
Mark Martin
As a member of the Macomb community, Martin is active in such activities as the Macomb Balloon Rally, the Knights of Columbus, the Western Athletic Club and Western鈥檚 Purple and Gold Committee, where he also served as co-chair for the past two years. Martin has served as the Macomb Little League鈥檚 and Macomb High School Sports鈥� Two-Liter Drive sponsor. In addition he served as a co-sponsor of Western鈥檚 Alumni Association鈥檚 American Pride Cookout and Flood, Sweat and Tears Cookout. In 2003 Martin was named Macomb "Citizen of the Year."
"Mark Martin is a 鈥済o-to鈥� guy. He鈥檚 a firm believer that it鈥檚 more blessed to give than to receive," said Gordy Taylor, associate vice president for alumni programs. "When the Alumni Association sponsored the 鈥淔lood, Sweat and Tears鈥� fundraiser in 1993 to help with flood relief, Mark was the first in line to help; and again in 2001 he was there to lend a hand when we sponsored a benefit to assist the victims of the 9/11 disaster. That鈥檚 just the kind of guy Mark is a genuine community activist. I'm honored to present this year's award to Mark Martin."
