TESOL MINOR

The Minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is designed to meet the needs of students desiring to teach English in a variety of settings throughout the world. Specialized coursework in the minor focuses on theories and methodologies of TESOL while providing practical classroom experience.

Reasons to Minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages:

  • 18 credit hour online program
  • Job placement for individuals is widely available both in the U.S. and across the Globe
  • Variety of job possibilities, including, but not limited to, community-based Language schools for immigrants and refugees, private Language/international schools abroad, cooperate training consulting or as additional training for K-12 teachers
  • Will enhance teaching efficacy and increase employment opportunities in the Global TESOL market

  • EDS 427 - Foundations of Education for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Populations (3 s.h)
  • EDS 435 - Cultural Studies of Second Language Learners in the Classroom (3 s.h)
  • EDS 457 - Methods and Materials of Teaching ESL (3 s.h.)
  • EDS 458 - Linguistics for the Teacher of English Language Learners (3 s.h.)

Directed Electives Requirements (6 s.h.):

  • EDS 440 - Sociolinguistics (3 s.h.)
  • EDS 447 - Teaching of Listening, Speaking and Pronunciation to English Language Learners (3 s.h)
  • EDS 453 - Assessment of Bilingual and ESL Students (3 s.h.)
