Greek Life
General Information
Recruitment is the mutual selection process by which you and the fraternities or sororities determine the best fit for membership. It is a mutual process where you have the opportunity to decide which organization(s) would be a good fit for you and where each organization determines who they would like to invite to be a member.
During recruitment or intake, you will meet many members of each organization and have the opportunity to gauge whether or not a particular organization is a good place for you. While all organizations strive to create better men and women, each chapter is different and has a different personality. The goal of recruitment is to determine if Fraternity/Sorority Life is for you and where you find the best fit.
While some specific organizations may have higher standards or additional requirements, the minimum standard required to participate in recruitment is:
- Enrollment as a full-time 澳门六合彩历史记录 student (enrolled in at least 12 credit hours).
-
A minimum 2.500 cumulative college or high school grade point average.
- Exact grade point averages are used and will not be rounded up or down.
- Students who have completed at least 12 college credit hours will have their cumulative college grade point average considered for eligibility purposes.
- Please note that some organizations may require a higher grade point average to join.
Recruitment processes are unique for each council.听
The Interfraternity Council, or IFC fraternities at 澳门六合彩历史记录 use an informal process to recruit new members. Beginning at the start of the fall semester, IFC fraternities host several events, which conist of events both open to the public and private. The first few weeks of the semester are an organized time period where you can meet the men in each fraternity, build friendships, and decide which organization is right for you. IFC fraternities recruit throughout each semester. This gives students the opportunity to learn more about the fraternity and give both chapter members and potential members the chance to become acquainted as friends.
Panhellenic, or PHC sororities at 澳门六合彩历史记录 utilize a partially structured formal recruitment as a primary method of recruiting new members, in the Fall semester. This process allows you to meet the women in each sorority, make connections, and decide which organization is the right fit. Under the guidance of the executive board & Panhellenic ambassadors, students will be placed in groups and given the chance to learn about all Panhellenic sororities on campus and meet current members. If chapter totals allow, some chapters may have the opportunity to add new members to their group throughout the year through Continuous Open Bidding (COB), which is how chapters recruit in Spring. This process is much more informal and does not require a sign up through Panhellenic.听
Member organizations of the United Greek Council, or UGC do not hold formal recruitment. Instead, these organizations have elected to participate in a process whereby interested persons reach out to particular representatives, as determined by the organization (Undergraduate Advisor, Chapter President, etc). This method allows the respective fraternity or sorority to engage in more intentional conversations with those who are purposeful in their desire for information and/or expression of membership interest. The individual chapters will conduct their recruiting through what some call a Membership Intake Process (MIP). MIP takes place over several events during a semester. These recruitment events typically consist of informational meetings, philanthropic and educational sessions, and social events. At the informational sessions, potential members can get an overview of each chapter and request membership. Once a student has been approved to move forward with the process, they will continue their community education from the selected chapter. After the student has completed their specific educational process, the student will be able to 鈥渞eveal鈥 themselves as the newest member(s) of that organization.
